2.  Know how big a mortgage you qualify for. Get pre-approved with a lender before you start shopping. Remember, the loan amount you qualify for might not have a monthly payment you are comfortable with.

3.  Know what to expect. Understand the buying process from pre-approval to closing. Your REALTOR can make the process easy to understand.
